Jord, Norse Earth Goddess by Valkyrie240 Jord, Norse Earth Goddess by Valkyrie240
In Norse Mythology, Jord was the personification of the primitive, unpopulated, uncultured earth. She is the daughter of the goddess Nat (Night). By Odin, she is the mother of the thunder-god, Thor. After I sketched this, it was scanned and completed with a combination of Illustrator and Photoshop (and my hand drawing tablet).

Many sites say that her name was Jord (jord = earth in swedish and other scandinavian languages) but what I've herd from my brother that actually believe in asa religion is that her name is Fjorgyn.
Just saying ^^

beautifully made! Love all the details

Hi. I really don't tend to like much computer manipulated art, but this picture really caught my eye... something about the pose and the strength in the figure, the colours are really beautiful too! she looks like she wants to come alive, it reminds me of the film 'Kirikou' for the vividness of the colours, she'd make a great animated character also I think. Beautiful picture!!!x

Makes me think of the Green Man somehow. I believe he's Celtic, though. The Norse sure had a lot of earth god/esses, didn't they? :O_o:

I love your stylistic mix of detail and simplicity...
